Our Story
A Property Investment Company with a Legacy
As you’d imagine from a property company, our story starts with well… a property. It was 2000 when Andy Foote, our founder, bought an investment property in Spain and – as an investor – realised the importance of customer service.
While Andy was delighted with the capital growth of the property during the build period, with it being overseas he needed local support with funding the property and preparing it for the rental market. Unfortunately, this simply wasn’t available. He didn’t have the time to furnish or manage the letting of the property and realised that many other investors were in the same position. At this point, Andy took matters into his own hands and decided to build a property investment company with a difference, a full property distribution channel that offered something unique – customer service for investors.
BMS Ltd opened its doors in 2003 and started helping clients find their perfect investments, all while offering ‘360-degree’ customer service. In 2013, after ten years in business, Andy partnered with Bal Sohal – chairman of SevenCapital – and SevenInvest was born.
Working alongside the wider SevenCapital group, as well as developers Colmore Tang, SevenCapital offered a full end-to-end service for investors, acquiring land and building developments that were then distributed by SevenInvest. However, SevenInvest expanded to a point where if we wanted to continue scaling, it was time to start forging a new path on our own – armed with a new name and a new office in the Jewellery Quarter, we began starting to pen the next chapter.
While still working with SevenCapital and a select few other exciting developers, we started our new life in 2022 as Joseph Mews.
What’s in a Name?
When it comes to Joseph Mews, quite a lot as it goes. Within Andy’s property portfolio, he owns three commercial buildings and two holiday homes, all of which are named after Joseph, his son.
Joseph sadly lost his life to a brain tumour in 2007 – he was just nine years old. The Joseph Foote Trust was set up in his name to try to change the outcome for other families and children diagnosed with the condition. Since then, the charity has become The Brain Tumour Charity and grown into the largest charity of its kind in the world, funding millions of pounds of research and increasing the survival rate from 15% to 77% over the last two decades.
Across the world, Andy’s different properties also hold the Joseph name as a way of maintaining his legacy. In Spain, you’ll find Casa Jose. In the Cotswolds, you’ll find Joseph Lodge. In Birmingham city centre, you’ll find Joseph House. So, when Andy invested in the beautiful Georgian ‘mews’ building on St Paul’s Square in the Jewellery Quarter, there was only one direction he wanted to take the name.
Andy has since decided to step away from the business to pursue his work with several charities and enjoy his well-deserved retirement, but we’re very much still here, and we’re excited to take on a new challenge and continue to provide the very best service we can for our clients – both old and new.
